About once a year, youth and adult leaders should get together to set broad goals for the troop. Some of the decisions to be made:
- How do we strike a balance between old familiar activities and new ones?
- What are the essential campouts that we should repeat from last year?
- What are new campout activities we should try to arrange?
- How many camping nights will we have?
- Which campouts are two-night and which can be only one night?
- Which weekend holidays will we avoid camping to allow family vacations, and which weekend holidays will we plan a campout?
- What months do we camp vs cabin camp vs have a day hike?
- Where are we going to summer camp?
- Where are we going to High Adventure?
- What service projects should the troop plan?
- How should we supporting our Charter Organization?
- What long-term improvement projects should the troop undergo?
The results of this meeting should be written down in a Troop Operations Strategy, and will help inform the quarterly planning process.
