- As a mentor, you need to understand the position the scout is being assigned. Need to have a “Shared Vision” with scoutmaster and SPL
- Make sure the scout understands the position - look at the position page and go over the requirements.
- Tasks
- Communication requirements
- Attendance/participation requirements
- Chain of command/which ASPL they go to for help
- Work with the scout:
- Make sure the scout has
- adequate permissions on Troopmaster to do their job
- Access to the shared documents folder
- Make sure the scout knows
- how to communicate
- where shared files are stored, etc.
- How to use relevant parts of Troopmaster
- Also make sure the scout's parents understand the position, what they are responsible for, and that reminders and coaching from the parent is welcome, but doing the scout's job for them is not
Check in with scout
- How are they doing?
- Any goals accomplished?
- Are they getting support from other scouts/leaders?
- Roadblocks?
- Update the to-do list
- Encourage them on their journey
- Review Vision and Goals
- Celebrate what went well
- Thank them for their service
- Feedback on what didn’t go quite to plan
- Ask for feedback on your mentoring
